Sporcle Harry Potter Logic Puzzle Walkthrough

Harry Potter Logic Puzzle New Walkthrough

  1. Harry tells us Ron is in D3.
  2. Ron tells us that Bill, Charlie and Percy are in the three remaining corners. Harry has told us that all Triwizard champions are in row 1, and Ron has also told us that all spouses are adjacent, therefore Bill has to be next to Fleur in row 1. Bill is in F1 and Fleur is therefore E1.
  3. Fleur's brother in law who works at the ministry of magic is Percy, so he is in F6.
  4. Percy tells us that his owl is in his diagonal, and Bill has already told us that pets must be adjacent to their owners, so Hermes is diagonally adjacent to Percy in E5.
  5. Hermes tells us that he is adjacent to a "rat" and Percy has already said that a previous pet of his is in his diagonal, therefore Scabbers/Wormtail/Pettigrew is in D4.
  6. Wormtail says that he shares a diagonal with the other marauders. He has two diagonals, but A1-E6 only has two spaces left, therefore they are in the diagonal B6-F2. We know that Lupin is both a marauder and a DADA teacher, therefore he has to be in the B6-F2 diagonal, and in column B, meaning he is in B6.
  7. Directly above Lupin in B5 is Harry's first DADA professor - Quirrell.
  8. Quirrell's successor Lockhart is directly above him in B4.
  9. Now we run out of clues unless we place Charlie (which can be done after Percy), we know that he is in the last corner so Charlie is in A6.
  10. Charlie says Ginny is in column A. As per Ron's clue, she must be adjacent to her spouse, Harry, so she can only be in A2.
  11. Ginny tells us Voldemort is directly below Wormtail in D5.
  12. Voldemort tells us that Bellatrix is diagonally adjacent to Sirius, we know Sirius must be in C5, E3 or F2 as he is a marauder. Hermes tells us that no person in column E went to Hogwarts, therefore Sirius can't go there. If Sirius was to go in F2 then there is only one diagonally adjacent space, which is also in column E, so he can't be adjacent to Bellatrix as she went to Hogwarts. This means that Sirius is in C5.
  13. There is only one diagonally adjacent square left for Sirius, so Bellatrix is in D6.
  14.  Bellatrix and Sirius' clues both indicate that Nagini is in C6.
  15. Next we have to place James. We know that he is in the marauder diagonal, but can't be in column E because he went to Hogwarts, therefore he is F2.
  16. We know that Lily is in the quiz and, as his spouse, must be adjacent to James. The only square left that is adjacent, but not in column E is F3.
  17. James tells us that there are two owls in his row, one of them must be Hedwig. Hedwig is Harry's pet so must be adjacent to him. The only adjacent square to Harry in row 2 is B2.
  18. Hedwig's clue refers to Moody, who is in B1.
  19. We know that Hermione's date for the Yule Ball must be in row 1, as he was a Triwizard champion, and we know Ron is in D3, therefore Krum must be in D1 and Hermione in D2.
  20. Hermione tells us that Percy's old girlfriend is adjacent to him, so she could be in either E6 or F5, but we know that the last square in row 6 must be a muggle (Nagini's clue), so Penelope is in F5.
  21. Now we must look back at other clues. We know Cedric is in the quiz thanks to Harry, and we know that he must be in row 1. There is only one space left, so Cedric is in C1.
  22. Cedric tells us that Cho is in C2.
  23. Cho is adjacent to both Hermione and Crookshanks. There are two spaces left adjacent to her (B3 and C3), however thanks to Quirrell's clue we know that Umbridge has to be in row B, so she is B3 and Crookshanks is C3.
  24. If we go back to Charlie's clue we know that there is an auror above him,and we also know that Lupin and Tonks are married, therefore they have to be adjacent, so Tonks is the auror above Charlie in A5.
  25. Tonks tells us the three muggles are the Dursleys. We know that as Vernon and Petunia are married, then they need to be next to each other. We also know that one of them is in row 6. There are no adjacent squares to the only square left in row 6 (E6), so we know that Dudley goes there.
  26. If we go back to Tonks' clue, she says that the only ghost is a house ghost and in A4, thanks to Lockhart's clue we know that it must be the Ravenclaw ghost - Helena Ravenclaw/Grey lady. So place Helena Ravenclaw in A4.
  27. The Grey Lady tells us that there are two heads of house in her row and there are three spaces left, but we can discount E4 as being a head of house as all heads of house went to Hogwarts. Therefore the heads of house are in C4 and F4. Lockhart tells us that C4 is a Ravenclaw, so C4 is Flitwick.
  28. Flitwick tells us there is a pygmy puff in row 3. The only pygmy puff we know of is Ginny's pet Arnold, therefore he must be adjacent to her in A3.
  29. We are now left with Pig, Vernon, Petunia and a head of house to place. We currently only have one owl in row 2, and James tells us we need two, so Pig must be in E2.
  30. We know that Vernon and Petunia are in E3 and E4, and we know thanks to Dudley that Petunia is above Vernon, so Petunia is in E3 and Vernon E4.
  31. Petunia tells us that neither McGonagall or Sprout is in the quiz. We have already placed Flitwick, and Bellatrix tells us Snape is not in the quiz. The only head of house left is Slughorn, so he is the last remaining square.
